Restoring Hope, Transforming Lives, Leaving None Behind!
Currently Serving South Florida
To mentor and empower incarcerated veterans to become a supportive community that fosters healing, personal growth, and successful reintegration into society through spiritual guidance and practical skills development. To help them realize a future where they are recognized as transformed citizens —redeemed by their past, strengthened by their resilience, and united in their commitment to live with honor, to uplift their fellow inmates, and to serve as positive forces in society upon release. All this while honoring their service and restoring their sense of purpose. .

Founder/Executive Director
Ron Horton is a decorated FA-18 Strike Fighter pilot, ship captain, and seasoned leader with over 30 years of service in uniform to our nation and several more years of leading large scale operations in civilian life. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Navy’s prestigious nuclear power program, he built a distinguished military career marked by operational excellence, resilience under pressure, and a steadfast commitment to service.
Over the course of his naval career, he commanded at every level—from squadron to ship to Task Force and Logistic Group. His leadership portfolio includes serving as Commanding Officer of an aircraft carrier-based Strike Fighter Squadron, an amphibious Landing Platform Ship, and the storied Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65). As a Rear Admiral, his roles later expanded to Naval Task Force Commander, Commander of a Navy Region, and Commander of a Naval Logistics Group—overseeing critical logistics, interoperability, and training with regional partners in support of U.S. and allied operations around the Western Pacific.
Following his transition from active duty, in addition to being a public speaker, he served in various roles in the private sector, leading high-performing teams in large-scale operations and e-commerce environments. Today, in his fully retired capacity, he continues his lifelong commitment to service as the Founder and Executive Director of Veterans of the Cross Prison Ministry—a Christ-centered outreach dedicated to mentoring and restoring incarcerated veterans.
Through this ministry, he leads efforts to bring hope, purpose, and redemption to those behind bars, helping them rediscover their identity, dignity, and calling with a renewed sense of honor.
Grounded in his christian faith, shaped by decades of leadership, and driven by a heart for service, Ron now invests in the lives of those who have served—and those seeking a second chance.
"Every veteran deserves honor, hope, and a second chance at redemption."
Veterans of the Cross mentors have given me the help I need to reenter society as a better person and have given me the skills I need to never return to prison. Their love and compassion show the redeeming characteristics of Jesus Christ. As a USAF veteran, I am proud to be a part of this program. My dignity and self-worth are being restored.

When I came to prison, everyone told me it was hopeless. And it was, until I met Veterans of the Cross volunteers. For the first time in decades, I go to sleep not being anxious. I feel like I am a person again and my dignity is being restored. This is as close to freedom as I have felt in 22 years.

The volunteers of Veterans of the Cross come here through out the week and show us that we are not forgotten. They give us hope and mentor us to be model citizens in prison and upon release. They change our lives.

My first years in prison were a dark time and I struggled to find my way. The veterans program has helped me find my way and showed me that I can still live a life of service to others. I have regained my sense of honor through serving my fellow veterans behind bars.
